datagon GmbH was founded in 1989 by Harald Dahlen and Wolfgang Sprick with the focus on IT consulting and implementation.

In the early 90s these activities were transferred to team-IT GmbH with its base in Wiesbaden and Erfurt. In 2000 this arrangement was abandoned and the following companies were created instead:

Harald Dahlen moved to topdev GmbH in the course of this restructuring, Wolfgang Sprick has become the sole director of datagon GmbH 

datagon GmbH has deepened its activities in the field of "mobility". Since 2001 MOTIS has been developed in cooperation with the chair of Prof. Karsten Weihe at the Technical University (TU) of Darmstadt. Deutsche Bahn (German railway) has supported these activities along with a research cooperation with TU Darmstadt in running projects. Since 1st of August 2016 MOTIS is available from datagon GmbH for other partners as well as a community version or commercial version.
